CRUSHING CAN KILL!
Look up, Look Around and Look Down!
🚧 Stay Safe Around MEWPs! 🚧
Using Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs) can be risky, especially with potential crushing or entrapment hazards. Incidents have risen, from 35 in 2021 to 46 in 2022.
To work safely:
1. Plan Ahead: Identify hazards, create a risk assessment and a safe system of work (SSoW) and share them with all involved.
2. Train Everyone: Ensure all operators and personnel are trained and familiar with the MEWP.
3. Supervise: Keep a close eye during operations to address risks promptly before causing harm and danger.
4. Be Aware: Stay vigilant of surroundings to avoid accidents.
Pedestrian Control Mode: Some 3a and 1b MEWPs have detachable platform controls which can be used when the MEWP operator is on the ground walking alongside the MEWP, some operators refer to this as dog walking or wander leading. This can also reduce risks when overhead hazards are present.
Remember, safety first saves lives! Stay alert and stay alive around MEWPs. 🚨
