Thundridge Old Church Restoration
Background
The Thundridge Old Church is a grade II listed tower from a Saxon church in a historic area North of Ware, Hertfordshire. It is a remote location, only accessible by public footpaths. Our customer, Brown and Ralph, worked alongside RH Partnership Architects and Historic England to carry out a two-day survey on the church exterior.
Thundridge Old Church Action group are fighting to save the church by trying to raise money to keep it going.
The challenges
The old church is in a remote location in the middle of many fields with no vehicle access. There is also tight access around the church due to the west elevation and a fence to one side, limiting access to a small gap in one area.
The grass and condition of the ground also limited machine selection.
Our solution
Prior to the work, we carried out a site survey to assess access and decide on the best machine for the job. We were also able to ensure we could access the old church from many different directions.
The 23.12 tracked spider lift was perfect as it could travel across fields, footpaths, and grass in order to access the old church. And, with a 23m working height and 12m outreach, it was able to reach all areas of the church.
Our experienced operator Gary tracked the machine for 15 minutes through a field to get to the old church and was then able to manoeuvre slowly through the small gap between the church and the fence to get where he needed to be.
The two-day operated hire was a success, and the versatility of the Hinowa 23.12 tracked spider lift made it easy for our customer to carry out all of the exterior survey work.
