Trimming Ivy in Stamford
Background
The George of Stamford is a picturesque hotel close to the Welland River. The historic building, thought to be around 1000 years old, is full character and original features lovingly restored to show its history. At its centre, the courtyard is surrounded by walls of ivy and provides a relaxing space for guests to relax.
Our customer, Thompson Trees, needed an access platform to trim the ivy around the windows in the courtyard.
The challenges
Access into the courtyard is through an archway from the driveway. This poses issues for access as there is limited space and also height restrictions to consider.
A cable runs also through the courtyard and there are a number of plant pots decorating the area. We, therefore, needed a solution that allowed us to work around the cable. The pots were less of a consideration as we were able to move them if needed.
Our solution
Our 17m Hinowa 17.75 spider lift was the ideal access platform for The George. At only 0.8m wide, its compact travel dimensions meant we could easily transport it through the main archway into the courtyard. We were then able to set it up safely to one side of the courtyard, leaving the rest clear for access. We also put cones and barrier tape in place to section off the work area.
The Hinowa spider lift has a 17m working height and so was easily able to reach the windows and clear the ivy safely.
